Southwest Georgia Farm Credit Offers Free Agriculture Finance Training for Georgia Farmers

Southwest Georgia Farm Credit is offering a free financial training workshop for young, beginning, small and minority farmers called "AgAware."

BAINBRIDGE – Southwest Georgia Farm Credit is offering a free financial training workshop for young, beginning, small and minority farmers called “AgAware.”  The purpose of the nationally award-winning program is to promote and educate the next generation of farmers.

Topics covered in the program include: Balance Sheets, Income Statements, Family Finance & Family Budgeting, Risk Management, Accrual Income, Applying for Financing and Preparing a Business Plan with bonus video topics on Record Keeping, Marketing, and Technology available for continued education. The AGAware educational program is also certified for FSA Direct Borrower Training Credit.

“Farm Credit has a long tradition of serving U.S. agriculture and rural America,” said Duane Watson, Relationship Manager with Southwest Georgia Farm Credit. “We hope that AgAware, along with other ag-focused organizations throughout the state, will help ensure that our next generation of farmers are prepared and have a strong financial future.”

Young farmers are defined as those 35 years of age or younger; beginning farmers are defined as those having 10 years or less of experience; and small farmers are defined as those having annual gross agricultural sales of $250,000 or less.

The free training is set for Friday, July 22, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Merry Acres Inn & Event Center, 1500 Dawson Road, Albany.  Lunch will be provided. Register online at SWGAFarmCredit.com/agware. The registration deadline is July 8, 2016. For more information, contact Liz Nogowski at 229.493.0149.
